Elementary, my dear Watson!

開工了! 第一堂課總是得準備一些開場的話，這學期，就以福爾摩斯的口頭禪—Elementary, my dear Watson! —打開今年的閱讀與探險之旅。


說起這句口頭禪，我第一聯想到的是影集Elementary，華裔女星劉玉玲主演華生的腳色。這是非常有意思的觀點，當Watson變成女性，是平衡、也是凸顯，我則更注意到一個問題，到底是福爾摩斯比較重要，還是華生比較重要?


elementary這個字，是最基本的、簡單的、元素的。看似最簡單的，往往也是最基本、最重要的，這也是偵探推理的要素。請問，你覺得福爾摩斯所說的elementary是甚麼?

就單單一句英文，我聯想到的問題很多：


第一，敘述者是從怎樣的角度觀察Sherlock Holmes?


第二，she是誰?


第三，為什麼用斜體the


第四，這是用現在式，所以表示這是敘述者認為這是真實無誤的。


第五，開門見山，就道出本故事主旨，所以本故事強調的是 the woman，為甚麼?
